DHN Digital is a team from Northern Germany that helps small and mid-sized German companies put AI to work. It trains teams to use tools such as Copilot, ChatGPT and Claude, and builds custom automation for document-heavy processes. Since December 2024, Exerge's engineers have built and run the platform behind those custom tools, and Exerge's founder, Adeel Malik, is DHN Digital's tech lead.
The starting point
DHN Digital's clients lose hours to documents that arrive in every format and have to be read, checked and typed into another system:
- A chemist spends about half an hour per product reading safety data sheets to decide whether it fits a tender.
- Orders arrive as emails and PDFs and are keyed into Excel or a CRM by hand.
- Renewable energy developers write many near-identical contracts with individual landowners.
- Hazard labels, storage checks and permit documents are written out manually, and not always consistently.
Each of these is a small project for a client. Built one by one, they would each need their own sign-in, file handling, queue and hosting.
What we built
- One platform, many modules. A web app where a client's team signs in, uploads documents and gets results, on a shared back end for files, jobs and users. Each client process is a module on it: 17 so far.
- Documents in, structured data out. Modules read PDFs, emails, scans and spreadsheets, extract the fields that matter, and apply the client's own rules before anything is written out.
- Safety data sheets into Excel. Data sheets read and checked against tender rules, with the results in a spreadsheet the chemist reviews instead of retyping.
- Orders captured from email. Orders extracted from emails and PDFs into each customer's own template, ready to import.
- Contracts and documents from rules. Contracts generated from structured data and clause logic, and labels and permit sheets produced in the required format.
- Answers from a company's own documents. Assistants that answer questions from a client's documents and product data.
